And that's normally not a problem. It is also probably what the media expect when they come to a body like The National Youth Agency. During the recent heat wave, I was asked to comment on the effect of hot weather on the teenage libido. Not such a tricky one for a youth work rent-a-quote: "adolescence a difficult time, long summer evenings with friends, new opportunities to experiment, parents often don't communicate well about sex, therefore we need supportive youth work projects". So far, so glib to be honest. But that same evening I spoke to a friend - with ostensibly impeccable laid-back parent credentials - who explained in detail the excruciatingly difficult conversation she had with her 14-year-old daughter when she tried to broach the subject, ending with her being given a stern injunction never to raise the issue again.
