Yet the real promise of blogging is greater than just allowing everyone a say. As people's entries link to other sites and blogs, a whole new expressive and organic environment evolves, with the power for readers to feedback and link content to their own blogs.

What makes weblogs important for those working with young people is the way that much of this momentum is coming from them. A recent study estimates that of about four million active weblogs, more than 50 per cent are being created and run by 13- to 19-year-olds. A great number are used as outlets for candid self-expression in ways that have been described as a form of self-therapy.
