The National Youth Agency: Church of England calls for faith inyouth services in diverse times

1 min read

Like its 1985 predecessor Faith in the City, Faithful Cities has a substantial section calling for faith in young people and for government and faith communities to give "new consideration to the informal education of young people" through the youth service.

Short-term funding of youth and community work has been a real problem and the report calls on the Government at all levels to take into account the distress and disruption this causes. There is also increasing evidence that in certain cities drastic reduction in youth service funding is causing real problems, particularly for the voluntary sector.

The report recognises that today's cities and towns are "home to a religious and cultural diversity that was unimaginable 20 years ago". The NYA supports the recommendation that faith groups must work to combat racism, fascism and religious intolerance at all levels in society and we believe that good youth work has a vital role to play in this area.
