The NYA-supported Young Roots programme is to fund a group of girls (and boys) from Southend, aged 13 to 19, to explore this aspect of their cultural heritage. The Re-Form project will involve young people interviewing local people about what lies behind the preconceptions.
Other recent projects approved for Young Roots funding include Exploring the Roots of Our Garden, which will give unaccompanied young asylum seekers in Kent a chance to learn about the natural history of The Garden of England, including 10 practical conservation days that will help the young people learn historic and contemporary methods of countryside management and conservation.
