Having spent most of her career working with local authority youth services, Gore has seen youth work from many different perspectives, from being a volunteer through to a development officer to project manager. In 2004, she was seconded to Ofsted, and ran inspections of local authority youth services, Connexions and youth offending teams.
"I've been aware of what The NYA does ever since it started," she says.
"I have always read Young People Now and have been involved in various NYA-led initiatives. Work I was involved in with Black young people led to the publication of Beyond Steel Bands and Samosas in about 1989."
Gore's new responsibilities revolve around leadership and management of the team of organisational development consultants. One aspect is to work with youth services that have failed their Ofsted inspections. She will also aim to increase the capacity of The NYA to deliver consultancy services. "These consultants will have been through a recruitment process, we'll know about the quality of their work and their capabilities, and we can allocate work for youth services to particular consultants," she says.
"I think it's really important that the consultants can feed into many different areas of NYA work, while also communicating with the field.
