The National Youth Agency: Access - Young people give feedback onstandards in Buckinghamshire

1 min read
Enabling children and young people's participation in decision making was the key theme at an event held in Buckinghamshire recently.

This Participation Conference, funded by the Buckinghamshire Children and Young People's Trust and delivered in partnership with The National Youth Agency, aimed to promote the benefits of participation in decision making and build on the examples of good work already taking place across the county.

Many of the young people in attendance had already been actively involved with young people's clubs and groups, including the Buckinghamshire Youth Cabinet and the Buckinghamshire YouthBank.

Many service providers including the police and local authorities were also represented.

One young participant explained why she believes participation is so important. Misbah Mahmood, 15, said: "This event was an encouraging day, where the youth voice was emphasised for its important effect on the lives of young people today and in the future. I believe more events like this should happen, as it will show other young people that our opinions are important."
