The National Youth Agency: A warm welcome back for Youth Work Week

1 min read
Youth work needs all the recognition it can get at the moment as the pressure on local authority budgets continues to tighten. For evidence of this see the results from our recent survey of the Confederation of Heads of Young People's Services.

But figures alone do not tell the whole story, of course. They tend to ignore the plethora of examples of the transformational effect that engagement with skilled and dedicated youth workers can have on the lives of individual young people.

They also ignore the positive contributions young people make through their involvement with youth work. I come across examples of this every day, as do my colleagues at the agency.

I'm sure you do too - and I appreciate I'm probably preaching to the converted here. We all know about and understand the benefits youth work brings to young lives. The challenge now is to make sure that others hear the same message, understand it too and then act upon it.
