What does PSHE stand for? It's one of those acronyms that seem to undergo a shift every few years. Currently, in primary school it stands for personal, social and health education - although that may change if the government accepts Sir Jim Rose's recommendations for a new primary curriculum. In primary and special schools, PSHE is often one of many subjects taught by the class teacher. However, in secondary schools, it can be a first or second subject for a teacher, have elements delivered by outside experts, or have a whole department attached to it and be taught alongside citizenship education.
