
According to a report in the Grimsby Telegraph, the Scouts were used by Daniel McNally and Paul Rickett, Conservative candidates in the East Lindsey District Council elections in May.
In return for distributing leaflets in Marshchapel, the Scouts were reportedly offered use of allotment space to grow vegetables for a year.
According to Rickett, the "innocent" arrangement was simply "local community-minded people trying to help each other out". He added that it was "regrettable" that the situation had taken a "political dimension".
Unfortunately, this has resulted in a number of Marshchapel Scout group leaders to quit their roles, according to the Scout Association.
The Scout leader thought it an "enriching opportunity" for the young people, but the rules of the association state that when in uniform or representing the movement, members are banned from taking part in any party political meetings or activities.
