
The new Secretary of State didn't waste any time reaching out to the sector, posting a brief message on the Department for Education's website. In the 48-second clip, Hinds talked about how excited he was to be responsible for schools, education and early years. Unfortunately, it seems no one at the DfE had told him that a big part of the job involves responsibility for children's social care, as there was no mention of this in his message.
"Disappointing" was how former ADCS president Alison O'Sullivan described it on Twitter.
"What a shame" was the response of Children England chief executive Kathy Evans.
