
Rob Wilson rejected an offer to become a government minister in a Cabinet reshuffle in July so that he could focus on the impending publication of a book he had written about political scandal.
Little did he know then that, just two months later, the offer would come around again after Brooks Newmark stepped down as minister for civil society over allegations he had sent explicit images of himself to an undercover journalist.
Newmark's resignation came on the opening day of the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham, potentially leaving youth services without someone in government to push their case and listen to their needs.
