Last week, the new coalition set out its vision for a Big Society, wherevoluntary groups and community members would deliver more publicservices.
But Dame Elisabeth Hoodless, chair of the National Network ofVolunteer-Involving Agencies (NNVIA), told CYP Now that young peopleneed further access to volunteering opportunities. "There areopportunities for young people to join the Big Society but the doors arenot wide open," she said. "The new administration should set up ataskforce to go to every department and ask how they are usingcitizens."
Hoodless intends to make the call to government at the NNVIA conferencenext week. She likened her idea to the US programme AmeriCorps, amulti-billion dollar scheme that offers young people cash incentives todeliver public services.
