Teachers are concerned about the effect some popular TV programmes are having on young people's behaviour. Start a discussion about the influence TV has on teenagers.

TV programmes such as Little Britain, Big Brother and EastEnders are encouraging young people to be rude and behave badly, according to a survey of 800 teachers.

The survey, carried out by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, found widespread concern that these programmes were having a negative influence on young people. They said catchphrases such as "Am I bovvered!" from The Catherine Tate Show and language used by Little Britain character Vicky Pollard were being copied by young people to answer back in class.

Big Brother was the worst culprit, said teachers, with two-thirds of those surveyed singling out the Channel 4 reality show for criticism.
