The British Association for Adoption and Fostering is holding its 14th National Adoption Week (1-7 November), aimed at increasing adoption awareness. The focus of this year's campaign is to encourage the adoption of children who usually wait longer to be adopted - older children, siblings, those with disabilities and those from ethnic minority backgrounds.
Start a discussion with young people about adoption. Do any of them have experience of adoption? Are any adopted themselves? Ask if they'd like to share their experiences and tell their story. How does it feel to be adopted? Do they feel different to their friends who are not adopted? Has it affected their life? Ask young people to think about what might be different if they didn't know their birth parents.
