The lives of young people in Cumbria descended into chaos last week when flash floods ripped through their community.
Bridges were destroyed, leaving people facing round trips of around 100 miles just to get basic amenities, and at least five secondary schools had to be temporarily closed.
In the worst hit areas, such as Cockermouth, families must get used to living in temporary accommodation and caravans for many months while their homes are repaired.
The latest floods emphasise how vital it is that the public prepare themselves for a potential emergency.
How well prepared are young people if roads are impassable or if schools, youth clubs and shops are forced to close? What would a young person do if they saw someone injured or in distress? Consider scenarios, such as a flood, major fire, chemical accident or terrorist attack and ask young people to list the dangers each may present and how they would overcome them.
