Do celebrities have a responsibility to be good role models?

The media furore surrounding football player John Terry raises questions about the status of celebrities. Do young people think it is right to expect them to be positive role models?

Until recently, world-class golfer Tiger Woods was arguably the world's most highly regarded sportsman. That was before he fell out of favour with the public over allegations of extra-marital affairs. John Terry has since suffered the same fate, having been dropped as captain of the England football team ahead of this year's World Cup, after allegations of an affair were made public.

Both are major sporting heroes, celebrities and potential role models for young people. Does this mean they have a responsibility to behave in a certain way?
