What did they do? Sydenham Girls' School has become the first school in Lewisham and one of only 25 across the country to achieve a Gold award for cultural diversity from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.
Why did they get it? The Cultural Diversity Quality Standard (CDQS) recognises innovative work to promote cultural diversity, race equality and opportunities for all pupils. The school received special praise for its success in celebrating Black History Month, during which students attended workshops, visited museums and went on historic walks. The school also made links with the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill and the Stephen Lawrence Trust in Deptford.
