The latest research from the Government's National Evaluation of SureStart concludes that basing social workers in children's centres coulddisadvantage some families.
Families under stress - who may be going through child protectioninquiries - may need a more private way to access services "than throughthe front door of a children's centre", it says.
The findings are based on a study of the approach to child protectionwork within eight Sure Start programmes and four local authorities."Co-location should not be seen as a 'magic solution'," says thereport.
A separate report from the evaluation team claims that many Sure Startprogrammes have been offering parenting courses "that cannot be reliedupon".
