As part of the six-week project, about 60 teenagers from Kirklees will spend one day a week working towards an AQA bike-maintenance qualification, equivalent to NVQ Level 1 or 2.
The young people will spend the mornings learning how to maintain bikes and the afternoons doing off-road biking.
The 14,000 project has been developed and funded by organisations including Anti-Racism Kirklees, Communities United Project, Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing, Drugsense and the local youth service.
Police officers will also use the project to build relationships with young people and give road-safety talks.
Gill Manning, neighbourhood officer at Dewsbury West Neighbourhood Management Pathfinder, said: "The emphasis is on joint working with all the agencies and not the involvement specifically of the police. It is an exciting pilot project and we hope it will be sustained in the future."
