Sport engagement for Muslim girls

Health
The School Improvement Planning Framework is helping engage Muslim girls in sports in Birmingham schools.

Schools concerned about the number of Muslim parents unwilling to allow their daughters to take part in physical education have created a DVD for parents to show how girls can take part in sport while wearing appropriate clothing.

Some schools will be introducing single-sex sports lessons and full-length leotards for swimming lessons after consulting with pupils and parents.

The framework, which was developed by the Training and Development Agency for Schools, aims to unite efforts to meet the Every Child Matters outcomes with attempts by schools to raise achievement.
