Sport: Charities call for more lottery funds

Sport England has lost 55.9m of lottery funding between 2009 and 2012. The National Council for Voluntary Youth Services said it feared its Youth Active programme could also suffer.

Susanne Rauprich, its chief executive, said: "We share Sport England's concern that this may threaten community sport."

The National Lottery has been asked to contribute 2.2bn to the cost of the games. It had previously been asked for 1.5bn.

A spokeswoman for the Big Lottery Fund said its board is meeting early next week to discuss what will be affected by the increased demands on resources.
