The London Child Poverty Commission, launched this week by the Association of London Government and the Mayor of London, will examine local and national policies currently affecting child poverty and identify ways to break the cycle of deprivation.
Carey Oppenheim, chair of the commission, said: "Two-fifths of the under-18 population in London are currently living in poverty, which is the highest rate in the UK."
