Child poverty: Commission's first project announced

The London Child Poverty Commission has announced its first project.

The Centre for Economic and Social Inclusion will examine initiativesthat tackle unemployment and child poverty in London.

Carey Oppenheim, chair of the London Child Poverty Commission, said: "Wehope to get a sense of why the projects were set up and how effectivethey are. This will help us identify gaps, as well as projects that areworking well that we might want to build on."

The Institute for Social and Economic Research at the University ofEssex will look at the implications of demographic and economic changefor child poverty in London. "They have a model which allows them topredict what the likely child poverty figures in years to come will beand what type of polices can be put in place to deal with this," saidOppenheim.
