Social exclusion: Commissioner urges political commitment

Reaching Out: An Action Plan on Social Exclusion was launched on Monday last week (11 September). Speaking at an event to mark the end of Social Exclusion Week last Friday (15 September), Sir Al Aynsley-Green said that despite improvements under New Labour, Britain's young people are still being failed by society.

"We support the action plan - the philosophy is great," he said. "But who will be responsible for making it happen when there are so many other things that local children's trusts are being asked to do? And who is going to lead this? We have to have people trained who will understand how to bring about this change."
