Social Care: UN Report on violence - Council to developrecommendations

An international body is to ensure governments follow the recommendations made in a United Nations report on violence against children.

The non-governmental advisory council was formed last week by theCouncil of Europe, which agreed to adopt the recommendations in the UNreport earlier this year (Children Now, 31 January-6 February).

The advisory council will work with governments, United Nations agenciesand other agencies to ensure the UN's recommendations are followed.Peter Newell, co-ordinator of End All Corporal Punishment of Children,is the UK representative on the advisory council.
