Social Care News: Sexual exploitation - London to overhaul childprocedures

London's child protection committee is to overhaul its guidelines,including new procedures for sexually exploited children.

The news comes in the week that a Barnardo's report found some Londonboroughs may be failing to identify 80 per cent of the children in theirarea at risk of being sexually exploited.

The London Child Protection Committee is set to publish a draft of itschild protection procedures in the next few months.

Steve Liddicott, divisional director for children's services at Croydoncouncil, said they will recommend young runaways are interviewed to findout why they ran away and whether they are at risk of sexualexploitation.

The guidelines will also be linked to the revised version of theDepartment for Education and Skills' Working Together document oninter-agency working for child protection.
