Social Care News: Referral and assessment - Record sharing canimprove services

The use of a common referral, information and assessment recorddoes have the potential to improve support for vulnerable children andyoung people, according to a report on a local prototype developed inCumbria.

The study, funded by Cumbria Children's Fund, found the prototypeimproved inter-agency collaboration and information sharing.

Co-author Professor Hedy Cleaver said it showed a common assessmentrecord could result in more focused referrals and better-informed plansfor children's care.

The process had thrown up new information in some cases.

However, the report said it was vital to ensure all agencies were awareof a common record and trained in its use.
