Social Care News: Looked-after children - Leeds to speed upadoption process

A third adoption panel is to be formed in Leeds to help speed up the adoption process.

Leeds City Council's children's services scrutiny board has called for atimetable for the introduction of the panel, as well as action to helpreduce administrative delays.

In its report Adoption in Leeds, the board also asks the council to lookinto the possibility of introducing a special adoption worker to take ona child's case as soon as adoption is decided as the best plan for thatchild's future.

Other recommendations include raising awareness of who can adopt toincrease the number of potential adoptive parents and to makearrangements to keep prospective adopters informed while they areawaiting a match with a child.
