Speaking to Children Now, Hodge said: "If you care about whether a child can flourish, you need to ensure they are in decent housing. I am looking at how we can address this because we haven't done enough."
Denise Platt, chairwoman of the Commission for Social Care Inspection, said the Children Bill failed to adequately address the importance of the interface between housing and other agencies, which had been highlighted by Lord Laming in his report into the death of Victoria Climbie.
"There were some key elements in that case that actually have to be addressed in moving policy forward," she commented, calling for the Children Bill to include a mention of housing to ensure it is fully involved in partnership discussions.
