SOCIAL CARE NEWS: Council Services - Edinburgh reviews service structure

Edinburgh City Council could create a new department of education and children's services under a major review of social services. It follows a critical report into the death of baby Caleb Ness, killed by his brain-damaged father in 2001.

The move is one of four options put forward by chief executive Tom Aitchison as the council aims to improve partnerships between all those involved in children's services. Another option would be to create a joint children's department alongside a new department of community services combining adult social work with housing.
