Social Care News: Children's homes - Registration fee increase defended

The Government has defended a 20 per cent increase in fees for the registration and inspection of children's homes.

From April the annual fee charged by the Commission for Social Care Inspection for inspecting children's homes increases from 720 to 864. Registration fees increase from 432 to 518 for a small children's home and from 1,584 to 1,901 for other children's homes.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Health, which sets the fees, said: "The new increases may appear large but, in fact, the original fees were set at a very low level."
