1 min read
Information sharing between agencies failed to prevent the "severe and prolonged abuse" of three children, reveals a report that has major implications for UK child protection services.

The Social Work Inspection Agency published its response to thecollapsed child abuse case in the Western Isles last week. Nine peoplewere arrested following a series of dawn raids in 2003 but the chargeswere dropped last year.

It added: "It is hard to make sense of how so much professional energycould be devoted to sharing information, to such little effect, for thesafety and welfare of the children in family A."
