The chair for the Commission for Social Care Inspection believes timelyand effective decision-making is critical and will ensure betteroutcomes for children in care. And she would like to see social workershaving the time to understand and develop relationships withchildren.
Speaking at a meeting of the Children's Inter-Agency Group, Platt said:"If social work is about anything, it is surely about building arelationship with the child."
She suggested having a performance indicator to measure the stability ofsocial workers with children and that there has to be a betterunderstanding of how children's needs can be met.
Foster carers and residential workers should have supervision,consultation and support on how to deal with children suffering fromemotional distress and challenging behaviour, she added.
