Social Care News: Asylum - London councils take most minors

London councils continue to take the greatest responsibility for looking after unaccompanied asylum-seeking children who enter England.

The number of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children being looked after at 31 March was 2,800, up from 2,400 last year, says the Office for National Statistics, and London councils looked after more than 70 per cent of them.

Hillingdon council takes responsibility for children arriving at Heathrow, and is looking after more than 1,200 minors, while Croydon handles those claiming asylum at Lunar House.
