
A long-term campaign to raise the status, training and support of foster carers will get under way this week. The Fostering Network, the charity whose members include more than 55,000 carers, is calling for a "cultural shift" in the recognition of fostering, both by the children's workforce and the wider public.
The organisation published a survey of foster carers last week. It revealed that a quarter felt the support they received from children's social workers was poor, while 10 per cent were left unsatisfied with their training. Most concerning was the fact that in the past three years, more than half of the survey's 442 respondents had a child placed with them without being given information crucial to their care.
