Social Care: Foster care - Money allocated to boost reading skills

Foster children will be given the chance to improve their reading skills thanks to a 17,772 grant from the Roald Dahl Foundation.

The money has been given to the Fostering Network to go towards itsTelling My Story project, which aims to encourage foster carers to readwith their children.

Five events will be held across England, Northern Ireland and Wales fromOctober. Foster carers and their own and fostered children will get thechance to talk to a children's author, take part in storytellingworkshops and gain skills in teaching or learning to read.

Philip Jacob, funding and development manager for the Fostering Network'said: "We're hoping these events are going to be in interesting venues."
