Project Letterbox Club Northern Ireland

Purpose To boost the educational attainment of children in foster care

Funding Fostering Achievement is funded by the Northern Ireland Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety. The scheme costs about £45,000 a year

Background It has long been the case that, on average, children in care do less well than their peers at school.

Letterbox Club Northern Ireland is a scheme designed to help children in foster care, aged from seven to 11, improve their reading, number skills and confidence.

The project is a partnership between the Fostering Network and the charity Booktrust, run through the Fostering Network’s Fostering Achievement scheme. It was launched following trials of the programme in England, developed by the University of Leicester.
