The council last week decided to give looked-after children a role in the recruitment process. The move will see all applicants for senior posts in children and young people's services and any social care positions questioned by a panel of children and young people. The council will give the young people involved training in interviewing skills.
Kath O'Dwyer, deputy director of social care at the council, said: "It's logical the children should, wherever possible, be part of the decision-making process and be involved in anything that might affect them. The children also benefit by gaining self-esteem."
