The Government is consulting on the revision of its national child-protection guidance: Working Together to Safeguard Children. The coalition, which also includes fpa, Brook and Action on Rights for Children, is worried that the revision will incorporate protocols issued by the London and Sheffield Area Child Protection Committees (YPN, 22-28 June, p3).
The protocols require professionals to share information on sexually active under-18s with other professionals, including the police. The Sheffield protocol, highlighted in the Working Together draft document, requires professionals to make police enquiries about individuals in sexual relationships with under-18s.
The information commissioner, Richard Thomas, will be meeting the London Area Child Protection Committee to outline confidentiality concerns.
