Self-harm: Staffordshire works on county strategy

The aim is to improve services for young people who self-harm and develop a web site for young people in the area that would provide information as well as an opportunity to express views.

Gill Stanford, Staffordshire's commissioner for children, is leading six 15- to 18-year-olds who are developing the self-harm strategy. The group has received 10,000 from the Youth Opportunity Fund to carry out the project.

"There is a lack of understanding among adults regarding self-harm," said Stanford.

Among the young people involved in the project is Kayleigh Garbett, 18, who last week won a Wavemakers Award for her self-harm web site.
