Charity bosses have offered a 2.5 per cent pay increase or 400 - whichever is higher - to be back-dated to 1 October 2006, as well as a 2.5 per cent pay increase from 1 October this year and an extra day's annual leave, to tackle staff absences.
The move comes after 108 staff members across four youth projects staged a one-day walk out on 25 April over Quarriers' initial offer of 2.5 per cent, claiming it was not enough for staff on low wages (YPN, 2-8 May, p6).
Simon MacFarlane, Unison regional organiser, said staff have until 30 May to vote on the offer but Unison has recommended that they accept it. A spokeswoman for Quarriers stressed that the offer had not yet been accepted.
