SCOTLAND: Report praises fast-track pilot system

An interim report from the Scottish Executive found a "very significant" improvement in the speed at which cases were handled and that staff involved in the system were positive about the fast-track pilots.

However, the research team found that some panel members were concerned that the level of funding would fall once the trials came to an end.

Social workers also criticised the Scottish Children's Reporter Administration for underestimating the volume of cases that the fast-track hearings would deal with.

The researchers also reported that 133 people had gone through the fast-track hearings, which target persistent young offenders, by the end of July 2003.
