Scotland: Outward Bound extends scheme

1 min read

The Outward Bound Trust will use the grant to develop its Mark Scott Leadership for Life Award programme, which has been running since 1997.

Martin Davidson, manager of Outward Bound Metro, which runs the programme, said: "As a result of positive feedback from a recent consultation, we plan to expand from 120 participants this year to 500 in 2009."

The programme, previously run in Glasgow, is being extended to include towns and cities such as Edinburgh and Falkirk. The aim of the programme is to break down barriers between different cultures.

Young people attend a one-week development course, which involves training in team building. The participants then organise community projects, which they deliver over six months. The awards programme will benefit an estimated 3,400 people through its community projects, which address local issues including sectarianism.
