Scotland: No further enquiry into MSBP cases

The Scottish Executive says it has no plans for a further investigation into cases where children were taken into care following an allegation of Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy or conflicting medical evidence, after a review showed there were only three with cause for concern.

Edinburgh solicitor Eric Scott, who is representing two families who claim their children were wrongly taken from them, called for a public enquiry. He was unhappy that the Scottish Children's Reporter Administration reviewed its files only on cases identified by staff recollection.

The SCRA said it was working within a remit set with the Scottish Executive to examine why cases were referred to children's hearings in the first instance.
