Scotland: Frontline staff get tax credit training

Social workers and Sure Start staff could be given training on tax credit advice through a new scheme from the Child Poverty Action Group in Scotland.

It has been given more than 100,000 by the Scottish Executive to develop tax credit advice, information and training to ensure that disadvantaged families receive what they are due.

John Dickie, head of the group, said: "The big thing is to make sure that those who are entitled to tax credits, particularly low-income families, are getting their full entitlement with as little difficulty as possible.

"There are difficulties around overpayment, and clawing this back it has left poor families facing even lower incomes than they otherwise would have done."
