Dwynwen Stepien, the network's director, said: "There has been concern expressed by local authority heads of early years about how well engaged schools are with embedding the EYFS." One reason for this is the perception that reception teachers do not have the same in-depth understanding of early years best practice as dedicated early years professionals.
But Mick Brookes, general secretary for the National Association of Head Teachers, said: "What I'm getting back from my colleagues right across the country is that the EYFS is not only being welcomed but enacted. I would be interested to know what evidence the heads of early years are using to state this case."
