In their response to the Government review of Section 58 of the ChildrenAct 2004, which allows parents to continue to use physical punishment ontheir children, the association said it was an "uncomfortable fudge"that satisfied nobody. The current position is confusing for bothparents and those working with children, the response said, and calledfor a more lucid position.
A separate survey of parents is also taking place over the summer. Thefindings of the review, which closed on 10 August, will be presented toparliament in the autumn.
