Talk to young people about their own experiences. Are adults reluctant to tell them off? Discuss circumstances when adults interfere and when they do not. Talk about what makes the difference.

British adults seem to be less likely than other Europeans to step in if they see a group of 14-year-old boys vandalising a bus shelter. If this is true, why might it be? Does press coverage of gangs make adults more afraid than they need to be?

A new Institute for Public Policy Research report suggests that a lack of adult supervision of teenagers has increased the risk of youth crime and violence. Do young people think this is true? Would there be less youth crime if there was more supervision of young people on the streets?
