It is legally acceptable for parents to lightly smack their children, an overwhelming number of MPs agreed in the House of Commons. Talk to young people about the thinking behind this. Some opponents of a ban say that a smack is a useful last resort to teach a lesson to children. Some also argue against a nanny state that tells people how to live their lives.
