The Holocaust is relevant to everyone in the UK today, says the charitable trust that runs Holocaust Memorial Day. Talk about this. What do young people know about what happened? Do they agree that it matters to everyone today?
The theme of this year's day is "one person can make a difference". It particularly refers to courageous people, both Jews and non-Jews, who put themselves in danger during the years of the Holocaust. They didn't manage to stop the atrocity. Many of those rescuers and helpers lost their own lives. But many Jews did survive because of their actions. Invite reflection on them. Is it normal instinct to want to help others, even if it puts yourself and your family at risk?
